Paul Henderson Scott’s A Twentieth Century Life (Argyll, 2002) covered many diverse aspects – his safe and secure Portobello childhood and education at Edinburgh’s Royal High School and University, his World War II years and his diplomatic career where he served worldwide. Yet Paul Scott never lost touch with his native land and he returned to Scotland in 1980 since when he has been an ambassador for Scots culture and letters. He has been Vice-President and arts spokesman for the SNP, President of the Saltire Society and a campaigner for language, theatre and the arts. 

The New Scotland is a twenty first century sequel in which the author writes on developments in the new century and gives pointers to the future. 


Paul Henderson Scott lives in his native Edinburgh and has only recently given up skiing.
